West Side Story (12)

The towering 60s cinematic version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet - featuring Leonard Bernstein's unforgettable music and stunning choreography by Jerome Robbins - receives a 21st century update . . . with no less than Steven Spielberg at the helm.

And while the remake remains more faithful to the original stageplay, it still carries the drama and impact of the original film. Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler feature as star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria, but it was Ariana DeBose - filling Rita Morino's shoes as Anita - who danced off with the film's only Oscar.
